Delaware, Ohio was founded in 1808 by Colonel Moses Byxbe and Henry Baldwin, selling lots within the town for thirty dollars each. Although houses, businesses, and a courthouse began to spring up as early as 1807, it was not until 1815 that the town was officially incorporated.
Since its early years of settlement, Delaware has prospered due to its location on the Olentangy River and its proximity to Columbus. Delaware supported several early industries, including several stores, taverns, sawmills, flour mills, and wool factories.
In 1842, the Methodist Church founded Ohio Wesleyan University, but before becoming an institution for higher education, Ohio Wesleyan was a resort. Visitors came to town to enjoy the sulfur spring on the resort grounds. By 1851, the first railroad passed through Delaware, connecting the community to Cincinnati and Cleveland, expanding the city’s reach and influence even further.
With Delaware’s quaint history, it is the perfect spot to relax in your new Rockford home in Stockdale Farms.
