The Home Building Process Explained Part 2: Design Center Meeting

At Rockford Homes, we aim to make the home building process as easy and stress-free as possible. Many aren’t sure what to expect when building a new home and we want to take the mystery out of that process so homebuyers know exactly what to expect and can rest assured that we will be there every step of the way.  This month in our blog series we will discuss the design center meeting. This is often viewed as the most exciting part of the process and is truly where you make your home yours!

Before Design Center Meeting

As enjoyable as the design center meeting is, there will be a lot of decisions to make. Take some time to prepare for the meeting by getting an idea of what your style is. You’ve probably been dreaming of what you want in your home, but have you thought out all of the details from the exterior color of your home to the bathroom tile? Think about your color scheme, exterior colors, kitchen colors, and master bath colors. It’s a good idea to drive through your neighborhood and get an idea of what exteriors you like. Tour some of Rockford Homes’ model homes for design ideas.

Think about your preferences. Do you like white cabinets or would you prefer stained? What is going to make your home everything you’ve been dreaming of? Once you arrive at our design center, you will be able to see and feel your way through all of your selections. There will be a lot to go over in this meeting, but we will break it out into pieces so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the process.

Exterior Design Selections

The first step in the process will be making your exterior design selections. You can choose whether you want the brick, stone, vinyl, Hardiplank or a combination of these. We will select exterior, interior and garage doors. You can choose details such as glass accents on your front door, the hardware on the garage door and more. We will help you put all of the pieces together to create the curb appeal you are looking for.

Fireplace and Stairway Selections

Once we know what the exterior of your home will look like, we will move onto your fireplace and stairwell options. The fireplace is often a main focal point in the home, choose a fireplace mantel that you love. Imagine what your finished room will look like, will you want a ledge wide enough for displaying pictures or do you prefer a sleeker look? Next, we will choose your stair railing. This also helps set the tone for your home.  Do you like stained stair railings or wrought iron? We will help you create the beautiful backdrop you want for your dream home.

Kitchen Design Selections

Next, we will move onto building your dream kitchen. You can customize your kitchen exactly the way you want it. We will start by selecting the cabinet style and the countertop material.  Then choose the backsplash, sink, faucet, and hardware that brings it all together. Browse our selection of top-notch appliances and then choose your flooring. Think about what special features you may want in your kitchen, such as soft close cabinets or trash can pull-out needs. We’ll bring your style to life as we give you the gourmet kitchen you’ve always wanted.

Bathroom Design Selections

With your dream kitchen in the works, then it’s time to make your bathroom design selections. Have you always wanted that spa feeling when you walk into your master bath? Now is your chance. We will walk through your cabinet, countertop, flooring and shower tile options. We will make sure your bathrooms have all of the finishes made to suit your style.

Flooring Selections

The final selection will be your flooring. The flooring will finish off the look and feel of your home. Think about your priorities and the needs of your family. Do you have young children or pets? Will the carpet be too difficult to maintain? Do you want something easy to clean that will last for years? Choose practical flooring material to fit your life. Then choose the color that completes your color scheme.

After the Meeting

Once you’ve made all of your selections and have customized your home the way you want it, we will summarize your choices for you to review. This summary will layout all of your design selections, color choices, cabinet layout, and also give you your floor care and maintenance instructions. We ask you to ensure the summary is correct and then sign off on it so we can move on with our building process and keep you on schedule. Once signed, you are one step closer to building your dream home!
